Tingguo Zheng is a Professor of Economics at Xiamen University, where he holds joint appointments at the Gregory and Paula Chow Institute for Studies in Economics, the School of Economics, and the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics. He was born in Wenling, Zhejiang Province, China, and received his BA in Management and PhD in Economics from Jilin University.
His research and teaching focus on quantitative economics, with an emphasis on macroeconomic policy analysis, macroeconomic forecasting, mixed-frequency data modeling, and time series analysis. He has published over 100 papers in leading Chinese and English-language journals, including Economic Research Journal (《经济研究》), China Economic Quarterly (《经济学(季刊)》), Management World (《管理世界》), Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, International Journal of Forecasting, Journal of Multivariate Analysis, and Journal of Time Series Analysis.
His contributions have been recognized with several national and provincial honors, including the Young Changjiang Scholar of the Yangtze River Scholars Program (Ministry of Education), the Top Young Talent of the National Ten Thousand Talents Plan, and the Leading Talent in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Fujian Province.
Professor Zheng and his team are currently working on macroeconomic monitoring and forecasting, large-scale economic system modeling and analysis, and macroeconomic risk management. Drawing on economic big data, textual data, and financial data, the team conducts rigorous and highly innovative research on macroeconomic performance and policy analysis. In this line of work, he has developed two macroeconomic monitoring systems: one launched in 2018 (http://112.74.178.199/), which has attracted widespread attention from both academia and industry, and the MacroTracker (https://macro.xmu.edu.cn/tracker/) , developed for the Center for Macroeconomic Research at Xiamen University in 2024.
His research interests include macroeconomics and policy analysis, macroeconometrics, financial econometrics, time series analysis, and big data methods.
